The Obrigado Experience has a new home
Many years ago when I was a lot younger and fond of groove one of the monthly highlights was the Party People jam organized by Kenny “DJ Kenzhero” Nzama. It was a fun space with great music and awesome people who just wanted to dance and vibe.
Fast forward to the present and his approach to sharing culture has evolved. After joining forces with Muzi “Tha_Muzik” Mtshali and Tebogo Moalusi as MNM Marketing in 2014, the formed Obrigado. It was designed to be a unique and courageous exploration of Latin American influences in music, art, fashion and travel. They describe Obrigado as a platform for cultural exchange between Africa and Latin America using South Africa and Brazil as gateways and markets for cultural assets developed by various creative industry players. This has included memorable events, documentaries, online parties, music through guest mixes and Obrigado radio. Says Kenzhero: “In 2019, we launched Obrigado Travels, taking 50 people to Brazil for 7 days for a multisensory experience.”
This year they are converging all the experience, colour and brand power of Obrigado into one single moment, proudly launching OBRIGADO GIN. Made in partnership with renowned Creation Wines from Hermanus, distilled by German born and third generation Master Distiller, Rolf Zeitvogel.
“In celebration of this milestone”, says Tha Muzik, “on Friday the 4th of December we are launching the Obrigado Gin Bar, a curated multisensory experience in the heart of Parktown North. The Obrigado Gin Bar will bring together art, music, and food for an enjoyable summer experience of Afro-Latin vibes.”
The food is guaranteed to be spectacular as Chef Coco Reinarhz of Epicure is in charge of the culinary offering. As a multi award-winning chef, he is African epicurean elegance personified. World citizen and son of our soil, his food philosophy always engages with what it means to be African in a global gourmet context.
With music, food and drink on point, there is no doubt that Obrigado Gin Bar will be the place to be this summer and long afterwards. I already have so much FOMO from not being at the opening but planning a trip there as soon as it’s possible.
Address: 50 7th Ave, Parktown North, Johannesburg, 2193

I Love it; I will certainly be visiting the bar. Before that, where can I get the Gin?
